Hotel i 31

The boutique hotel i31 is located in „Mitte“, one of the most lively quarters of the capital, where designers cavort and galleries and bars seek their young audience. A house washed by the hustle and bustle of Invalidenstraße, it immediately encourages its relaxation-seeking guests to enjoy a drink in the quiet inner courtyard or in the foyer. Before setting off on a tour of discovery in one of the hotel’s own e-vehicles, which are made available to guests free of charge.

The eye lives with you, as they say. Hotel guests at the i31 do have a choice as far as the level of comfort is concerned, but all rooms are furnished according to a clear design concept in which either brown or white tones dominate. A feel-good atmosphere also prevails in the foyer or the well-stocked bar. Nothing seems cluttered or dusty. „I want to create a coffee house atmosphere,“ says hotel manager Zeév Rosenberg. And he has succeeded in doing so. There is a relaxed atmosphere that invites you to linger. The inner courtyard, where a voluminous stone Buddha watches over the well-being of the guests, also presents itself without a lot of frills. They come here from all over the world and choose the i31 as a starting point for their forays through Berlin.

The fact that the i31 is different from other hotels can also be seen in the fact that literary figures and mini-golfers come and go here and linger in the leafy inner courtyard and at the bar. Rosenberg invites writers, actors and politicians to read from their works in small groups. Once a year, together with TV presenter Sandra Maischberger, he organises a mini-golf cup in the garden of the house, the proceeds of which go to good causes.

He is a bartender, receptionist, personnel manager, his own guest and also his own applicant. Zeèv Rosenberg runs the boutique hotel i31 in a very individual way. As a host in the most literal sense. Anyone who watches his YouTube videos knows: this guy has a sense of humour. Because in the short videos you think you see double and triple. The hotelier plays all the roles himself: he checks in, checks the bed, flirts with himself and eats a croissant with relish. „Friendly, individual and cosmopolitan“ – that’s how Rosenberg wants to present his boutique hotel.

They have travelled all over the world and have now found their ideal retirement home. The four overseas containers that have been converted into small but fine living bungalows on the roof of the i31 annex. The interior of the 25 square metre containers is simple, but stylish and exquisite. On the terrace belonging to each one, you can formidably stand above things: lying or sitting. In addition to the four comfort containers, visitors have a choice of 121 rooms – with more or less comfort. A “thumbs up” in any case for the honesty of the hosts. In rooms that are a bit noisier because they are on the ground floor facing the street, earplugs are provided… Those who like it quieter should take a room on the upper floors facing the inner courtyard.

A hotel in the middle of the city where you can recharge your batteries. For yourself and your electric car, for which there are four charging points in the underground car park. Numerous designer shops, trendy bars and restaurants with upscale cuisine are within easy walking distance, as is the Natural History Museum just around the corner. If you want to go further afield and explore other corners of Berlin, you can rent one of the three chic UNU electric scooters or one of two electric BMW i3s in the summer. Since spring, very special e-bikes can also be rented. Free of charge, just like the other electric bikes of the i31. First come, first served.
