PIRELLI P ZERO, CINTURATO AND SCORPION TYRES ON THE LATEST ECO CARS AND CONCEPTS FOR THE FIRST TIME FSC CERTIFIED
Milan, 09 September 2021 – The world’s leading car manufacturers at the International Motor Show (IAA) 2021 in Munich chose Pirelli tyres for their most sustainable vehicles. Almost one in three electric cars exhibited at the show (29 per cent) and on the roads in Munich run on Pirelli P Zero or Scorpion tyres. Some of these tyres incorporate ELECT technology, developed for zero or low emission cars. The Pirelli Cinturato P7 tyres were also seen on the BMW 320e Hybrid and the 3 Series at the show.
THEY COMPLETE THE LOOK OF THE LATEST CAR MODELS
P Zero ELECT tyres are Ultra High Performance (UHP) tyres that combine Pirelli’s motorsport experience with ELECT technology. They have been selected to equip cars such as the Porsche Taycan, Ford Mustang Mach- E GT, Polestar 1, BMW iX and the new Mercedes-Benz EQE at the Munich show. The P Zero ELECT tyres are fitted on the Audi Grandsphere Concept car and the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQG, as well as on the new Mercedes-Benz EQB and the Ford Mustang Mach-E 4X.
In addition, models from the Scorpion tyre family – designed for SUVs and crossovers – were presented in Munich on new releases such as the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX and the ID.5 GTX, as well as on the Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid, the Jaguar EV400 AWD and the Mercedes-Benz EQCc 400 4matic AMG Line.
ELECT: MORE RANGE – MORE GRIP – AND QUIET Pirelli ELECT tyres feature a package of specific technologies for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles:
- low rolling resistance to increase range,
- lower driving noise to improve comfort,
- instant grip to handle immediate torque, and
- the right structure to support the weight of a battery-powered vehicle.
These tyres have been developed by Pirelli together with the world’s leading car manufacturers to meet the specific technical requirements of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. In line with Pirelli’s “Perfect-Fit” philosophy, with a specific compound, individual structure and tread design for each vehicle model.
THE WORLD’S FIRST TYRE SET WITH FSC CERTIFICATION
The world’s first Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified Pirelli P Zero tyres, which contain FSC-certified* natural rubber and rayon, are fitted to the new BMW iX5 Hydrogen and BMW X5 xDrive45e Plug-In Hybrid. FSC certification for forest management confirms that plantations are managed in a way that preserves biodiversity and improves the living conditions of local people and workers, while maintaining economic viability. The complex FSC chain of custody certification process verifies that FSC-certified material has been identified and separated from non-certified material as it travels along the supply chain, from plantations to tyre manufacturers.
